Lincoln-Way Central junior Jared Kreis knew he had the potential to be one of the state’s top distance runners.

Still, there was some sense of doubt lingering in the back of his mind prior to Top Times – the unofficial indoor state meet – on March 23 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.

“I know going into there that I have a shot, but you don’t really have that total belief until it actually happens,” Kreis said. “Going into it, you really don’t know what to expect. There was obviously great competition down there.
