Lincoln-Way East senior southpaw Cole Kirschsieper was typically brilliant in the April 2 game at rival Lincoln-Way Central, but the Knights’ Zach Ward matched him pitch for pitch through the first four innings, the teams going into the fifth in a scoreless tie.

Both pitchers were cruising along at a brisk pace, with the first four innings being played in a little over a half an hour.

It took just one swing from senior first baseman Casey Schilf to bring the Griffins’ bats to life in the fifth, however.
