The Holiday Card Contest for 2019 was looking for creativity and cheer, and readers did not disappoint in either category. (They also did not disappoint either the category of Best in Show or Funniest).

Both our mailbox and inbox were overwhelmed with wonderful entries from residents of Orland Park, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Mokena, New Lenox, Homer Glen, Lockport and even beyond. But Homer Glen apparently rules the day when it comes to crafting cards worthy of winning over our editors.

Our staff awarded the top prize — Best in Show — to Eileen Dominguez, of Homer Glen. The intricate design of her “Nutcracker” castle scene was so detailed it won over our judges despite the glitter it left all over our desks. A snowflake connected to hold it shut. Opening it revealed a Christmas message, and the artwork all around was incredibly crafted.

For her efforts, Dominguez is to receive four $25 gift cards to Bonefish Grill, 15537 S. LaGrange Road in Orland Park; four one-hour passes for racquetball/wallyball at Silver Lake Country Club, 14700 S. 82nd Ave. in Orland Park; a $25 gift certificate for Tazza Italian Ristorante, 14065 S. Bell Road in Homer Glen; a $25 gift card for One Paper Place, 590 Bankview Drive, Suite B, in Frankfort; and a certificate good for $5 off a purchase of $10 or more at Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage, 16600 W. 159th St. in Lockport.

The Blank family, of Homer Glen, claimed Funniest for their riff on Weezer’s Blue Album. The children lined up for the “cover” like the band, and the backside featured modified versions of the album’s real song names. The details, down to the production credits, won over our judges.

For their efforts, they are to receive a $100 gift card to Urban Air Adventure Park, 19800 S. LaGrange Road in Mokena; four $10 gift certificates for The Barrel Club, 4910 W. 111th St. in Oak Lawn; two hours of free bowling for up to six people, including shoe rentals, along with a pizza and pitcher full of pop, at Laraway Lanes, 1009 West Laraway Road in New Lenox; certificates for four free value baskets at Culver’s, 18248 Sayre Ave. in Tinley Park; and a certificate good for $5 off a purchase of $10 or more at Pop’s Italian Beef & Sausage, 16600 W. 159th St. in Lockport.

Publisher 22nd Century Media would like to thank everyone who entered this year’s competition, and to the businesses that sponsored the prizes.
