Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy confirmed just after 7 p.m. Jan. 23 that police took Jakharr Williams, their suspect in the Jan. 21 Orland Square shooting, into custody a short time prior.
McCarthy said Williams is being brought to Orland Park, and there will be a felony review process before any charges are made against him.
Orland Park Police Cmdr. Tony Farrell added in an email to The Orland Park Prairie, “We will be working through the night to obtain charges.”
Farrell said the arrest took place around 6:15 p.m. in Matteson without incident. The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, working with Orland Park, took him into custody, Farrell explained. More information is forthcoming, he added.
Williams, 19, of 696 Madisen Lane in University Park, was identified as the suspect in the shooting death of Javon Britten, an 18-year-old from Richton Park, following interviews with witnesses and a review of video footage, according to a press release issued Jan. 22.
