Bringing back full-day kindergarten could cost Mokena School District 159 an estimated $150,000 in annual teachers’ salaries and benefits, administrators say.
The D159 Board of Education voted Jan. 15 to reinstate Mokena Elementary School’s full-day kindergarten program for the 2014-2015 school year.
The board eliminated the program five years ago to cut costs. Because the district already has most of the physical space and materials required for operating a full-day kindergarten, the added costs of bringing back the full-day option will mostly come in the form of salaries.
