Storybook characters stepped off the page and into Mokena on Sunday, May 23, for an enchanting afternoon at a Fairy Tale Tea Party hosted by All About Music & Children's Theatre.
During the event, held at the St. John's Community Center, AAMCT performers donned costumes to greet guests as Snow White, Glinda, the Mad Hatter and other beloved characters before presenting selections from the theater's recent shows.
The event offered a taste of theater to younger children who might not be able to sit through an entire musical, said Connie Johnson-Beebe, AAMCT creative director.
The tea party also featured lunch and door prizes, and children were invited to dress up as their favorite fairy tale characters.
"I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to spend some girl time and dress up," said Tinley Park resident Kris Okoskey, who attended the event with her 4-year-old daughter, Olivia. "How often do you get to wear a tiara?"
About 240 people from throughout the south suburbs attended the tea party, and one little princess even came from outside of Illinois.
Eva Olsen of Munster, Ind., attended the event with her cousin Maggie Hughes of Palos Park. Three-year-old Eva dressed as Cinderella, while 4-year-old Maggie came as Snow White.
"They love dressing up," said Maggie's father, Mike Hughes.
"They're all about the princesses," added Eva's mother, Cathy Olsen.
